I did not grow up an athlete. I did not grow up plant based.
In 2021, a routine blood test for a life insurance application came back with numbers I could not ignore. My BMI was high, my weight was higher than it should have been, and my blood markers for cholesterol and blood pressure were elevated. Not off the charts, but far from where they should be. I know BMI alone is not a great health indicator, but combined with everything else, the picture was clear. I was a normal middle aged dad who had simply never made his health a priority. Looking back now, I was clueless.
Later that same year I got sick after eating fast food. Nothing dramatic, just felt terrible, and it made me stop and think. I started watching documentaries and seeking out evidence based content on food and health. Not opinions, not supplements, not influencers pushing products. I wanted to understand what the science actually said. Around that same time I laced up my shoes and started moving, running roughly a mile here and there, doing some pushups and sit-ups. Nothing impressive, just basic movement. But it was a start, and something about it felt different this time.
As I kept learning, eating plants clicked for me. I was trying to lower my cholesterol. It did not make much sense to keep eating it. Through late 2021 and into early 2022 I cut back on junk food and red meat. Then on March 1st 2022 I started what I told myself was a two week trial of eating strictly plant based. That was several years ago now and the two week trial never ended.
Since then, blood markers that were once in the yellow and red have dropped to optimized. What started as basic movement grew into a genuine commitment to physical challenges I never would have considered before. CrossFit workouts. Hyrox competitions. Ultra distance runs. Not for trophies or attention, but because getting healthier built confidence, and that confidence created a desire to keep testing what I was capable of. I started choosing goals that were difficult, uncertain, and sometimes uncomfortable. That part has not changed.
I did not adopt a plant based lifestyle because it was trendy, I don't think it is, unfortunately. I did it because I dug into the science and the science was convincing. I wanted facts, not fads, not influencers. I wanted evidence, I need proof.
The point was never perfection. It was longevity, capability, and the discipline to show up fully for the people I love. To live a long, healthy life. To be strong, capable, and present.
Plantblood is the result of that journey. It represents choosing resilience over comfort. Plants over compromise. Grit over convenience.
Along the way I have connected with others on the same path. Vegan athletes and driven individuals of all ages who are redefining what strength looks like. What connects us is not motivation. It is mindset. The kind the Finns call Sisu: unyielding determination in the face of adversity.
This space is for anyone curious about living healthier, stronger, and more ethically through plant based choices. We choose plants because the science supports both human health and reduced harm.
Strength with soul. Rooted in science. Disciplined in practice. Plant powered by choice.
